We Explored Austin’s Downtown East Side With Great Success

Austin’s East Side has a resurgence that looks quite familiar to regular Austin travelers. The atmosphere feels like how the “old” West Side of Downtown Austin used to be. I was able to be part of that atmosphere during my stay at Home2 by Hilton East 5th Street location.

My team and I were able to do a collaboration with the good people of Home2 by Hilton East 5th Street location. While staying my two nights in Austin, I was able to feel right at home during my stay. I was very busy throughout the day with SXSW and needed to unwind after relaxing in my comfortable room.

Home2 by Hilton East 5th Street location is near some extremely popular spots that native locals hang and party at. We decided to check the area nearby and found some great places I must highlight due to their old Austin feel that included some cool new age things that created new memories in my mind.

First, we were able to get dinner at Tamale house. The aesthetic feel was very authentic like I was back at my mom’s home in the Rio Grande Valley. Once seated, we were told to order using their QR code on our phone. Once our food was ordered, we could hear live music being played next to the restaurant. A pretty cool punk type of band was playing next door while we enjoyed our food. I of course got beef enchiladas with rice, beans, and flour tortillas.

After we ate our food, we decided to check out the local businesses that were packed throughout each step we took on the streets. One such place was Zilker Brewing Co. where they had live music going with SXSW. They even had another section of their place with tables filled with people enjoying their drinks as well. The music was pretty good, the artist we saw is from Scotland and her band’s name is Azamiah.

We continued to walk around the area and saw many places were bustling with people either from SXSW or regular Austin locals wanting to relax at their favorite place. Next place, we found was the White Horse that featured some good honky tonk music. There was a huge audience of people dancing to the music and hanging out. I joined in on a few dancing steps as the music grew louder with excitement. After a while, we left to continue on a journey back to the hotel.

Once back to Home2 Suites by Hilton, I remembered the amazing feats we had that evening. The food and the music were top notch as how I remembered now “old” Austin should be. I would like to thank Home2 Suites by Hilton East Side 5th Street for the collaboration because I wouldn’t have known on how vibrant the new East side is. This side of town had the atmosphere I used to enjoy when coming to Austin many moons ago.
