Today, we sat down with Kevin Grams who is the vocalist, guitar player, and songwriter for MAGEFA. Kevin talks about his inspiration to write music, music he listened to growing up, and much more! Be sure to check out the music of MAGEFA on Spotify below after the interview!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
My initial inspiration while in MAGEFA was my working place. I was an inexperienced
surgical nurse and started to write lyrics about that. The inspiration on the music site was more of the write down of my feelings. I also just wanted to write some good music and listening to death metal bands like Carcass and Death helped a lot.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
I listened to nearly any music except German Schlager. Since I learned to play the guitar when I was 10 years old I was more into Rock and Metal. Metallica, Slipknot were my early Metal experiences, later replaced by Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, then Thrash Metal with Metallica again (the old stuff), a lot of Kreator and Megadeth and then into Death
Metal with Unleashed, Carcass and so on.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Dave Mustaine. He also shares the same birthday with me. But he is 30 years older than me.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
Probably living a life whatsoever. But it makes more fun being a musician though.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just make the music you love and prepare yourself for the fall, because everyone fails at least once.
In any case, check out our release coming up on October 20th called “Bombs Over Europe”. You may get inspiration for songwriting as well.
