Being prepared for SXSW is something that you shouldn’t take lightly. Many attendees for Austin’s South by Southwest festival think they need a badge and they are ready. Well, not to burst the bubble, but there is more to it than just a badge. Here are some steps many people don’t realize when they are preparing to the journey to Austin for SXSW.
First, you need to look at your fitness and health. One year at SXSW, I got extremely tired and was sick. I had a panic attack and felt sick on different days of SXSW. I didn’t get my health in order which prevented my team and I to have a successful SXSW. For this year’s SXSW, I started three months ago doing yoga, walking 4 to 6 thousand steps a day, and standing up for hours at a time. This helped me endure SXSW with peak physical force that had me at full strength nearly throughout each day.

Second, you need to investigate into purchasing proper shoes. You will be walking all around Downtown Austin multiple times a day. You will be at 4th street, then journey to 10th street, then back to 3rd street and the streak continues. You need to have proper shoes that will handle the hurdles of walking around Downtown Austin. I fully recommend getting walking shoes as they are meant for walking long distances per day.

Lastly, you need to have booked a proper hotel. You are thinking of either driving outside of Austin for a hotel or finding something just right on the corner of the event you just attended. Take it from me, driving in this traffic to your hotel is frustrating and having a hotel in the same venue of a huge event can be distracting and not comfortable. The hotel I would recommend is Home2 Suites by Hilton East Side 5th Street.
The hotel is located WALKING DISTANCE from downtown Austin but also is situated in an area that is extremely popular. Home2 Suites by Hilton East Side 5th Street provides a comfortable setting to rest during SXSW. You can ride share, take the metro train, or walk like many others have done. I was able to collaborate with Home2 Suites by Hilton East 5th Street this SXSW and provided a comfortable stay for an epic SXSW year.

Be sure to look into these things while preparing for your SXSW trip. This can be tough on your mindset on choosing what needs to be done. Once done early enough such as fitness, shoes, and hotel, then SXSW will be a breeze.
