UK indie rockers The Wedding Present delivered a killer 2-hour set at 29th St. Ballroom on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Supporting a career-spanning compilation and the 35th Anniversary of their much adored 1991 album Seamonsters, The Wedding Present – led by principal singer-songwriter David Gedge – began its spring U.S. tour here in Austin this past weekend.
In September 2025, the band released a 40-years-spanning LP and CD box set cataloguing the career of alternative music legend David Gedge. In his constant prolific-ness, Gedge and The Wedding Present put out the group’s latest EP, Maxi, in December 2025.
At Ballroom, much to the excitement of the healthily-sized ‘90s rock crowd, D.C. musician and Unrest founder Mark Robinson opened, playing solo acoustic. Meanwhile, Gedge could be found at the merch table tucked away in the corner of the dark Ballroom, freely yet shyly chatting with fans and kindly signing records and other merchandise.
Gedge and his four-piece then took the stage and performed a loud and rockin’ set, which included new and classic songs. The band then performed Seamonsters in its entirety.
“I saw them in the late ‘80s. They’re such a high energy band that I guess I assumed they would have mellowed out a bit, but they didn’t,” said long-time fan Chad Van Wagner, a local rock writer and record store clerk. “They still sound like some massive thunderstorm coming from the stage.”
