The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers. Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.
I was able to watch the new movie straight from my Netflix app! I’m a big WW2 fan of the history and stories that come from that era. When I heard about this true life story, I couldn’t believe I never heard of it. Once I saw the trailer, I knew I wanted to watch this movie. I wanted to know more about the 6888th and what they have done in the war. They overcame sexism and racism to become a respected part of the military and help their country succeed in victory. I had a wonderful time watching this movie and learning about their story!
Pro:
- History
- The stories that come out, doesn’t matter the color of their skin, should come out to focus. The 6888th did something that literally kept communication going for the soldiers and their loved ones. They were able to help ease the fears many had of their loved ones overseas during the war.
- WW2
- Anything from the war, I’m a big fan of in watching and learning from their stories. I know many movies out there aren’t as well done as others, yet this one, was excellent.
