Steve Hale Unveils Cover of The Zombies’ Classic “She’s Not There”

Steve Hale, the celebrated Oregon-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, is thrilled to announce the release of his latest single, a reimagined cover of The Zombies’ 1964 hit “She’s Not There.” This modern take on the timeless classic resonates deeply with Hale’s own experiences of love and loss, delivering a fresh yet nostalgic listening experience.

“Have you ever felt abandoned by love? She’s left you, you didn’t expect it, and now you’re picking up the pieces of your heart from the blast zone,” reflects Hale. “The melody of this song has always moved me and reminded me of my own experience with this type of slice of life drama.”

The haunting lyrics of “She’s Not There” explore the poignant reality of heartbreak and the struggle to move on. Hale’s rendition brings a new groove and tempo to the song, creating an arrangement that feels both personal and authentic. “I have a kind of melancholic love relationship with the song and I’m able to connect with the melody and lyrics because it reminds me of that girl that slipped away,” he shares. “My take on the production was to deliver it with a different groove and tempo and make it feel like it was a song that I could have possibly penned.”

The accompanying music video adds a visual dimension to the song’s theme, featuring a magical portrayal of a girl in a box who ultimately disappears. “She’s really not there, and she’s not coming back,” Hale explains, highlighting the video’s symbolic narrative.

An Oregon native, Steve Hale combines his unique vocals and songwriting style with an A-list ensemble of Portland’s finest Funk and R&B musicians in his band, Steve Hale and the Super Soul Heroes. His soulful songwriting is influenced by legends like Kenny Loggins, Daryl Hall, Sam Cooke, and Bill Withers, with a deep appreciation for melody and groove woven into the fabric of his music.

Hale’s diverse musical career includes performances with various bands across genres from power pop to rock.
