April 18, 2025 (Los Angeles, CA) – Globally acclaimed, Platinum-certified singer-songwriter and storyteller Michael Marcagi releases his highly-anticipated new Midwest Kid EP today via Warner Records. Listen HERE.
The 5-song EP opens with standout track “Wish I Never Met You” featuring Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers. Piano, tambourine, and sunny whistling brighten up the soundscape as Marcagi and Schultz lock into a magnetically melodic back-and-forth. It culminates on a chantable chorus, “It’s better to love you as I lose you. I don’t miss you. I wish I never met you at all.” Among other highlights, “Stick Around” swells from soft acoustic guitar-laden verses into a seismic refrain, “Cause I won’t go if you just stick around, and all my friends are leaving this town.”
Ultimately, the project not only places Marcagi’s vivid and vibrant songcraft front-and-center, but it also affirms his status as one of the most talked-about artists to watch over the past year. Across these tracks, he shows listeners where he came from and where he’s headed as one of the brightest and fastest-rising young songwriters of his generation.
“My new EP, ‘Midwest Kid’ includes 5 songs with a very similar theme,” Marcagi explains. ”It’s about the place I was born, raised, and still call home. It’s about starting this crazy new chapter of my life while navigating and maintaining the relationships I have with friends and family in my hometown. I’m very proud of where I’m from and I hope to carry that with me forever.”
He paved the way for the EP’s arrival with recent audience favorites “Follows You” and “Flyover State.” Last month, Marcagi delivered an impassioned performance of “Flyover State” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! — watch it HERE. He also dropped by CBS Mornings to perform it on Saturday Sessions.
Plus, Holler hailed lead single “Midwest Kid” as a “nostalgic, uptempo earworm,” before noting, “Michael Marcagi continues to cement himself as one of the most exciting new voices in the folk rock landscape.”
“Midwest Kid” followed a trio of singles “Keep Me Honest,” “Good Enough”—which was also co-written by Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers—and “Tear It All Apart.” Of “Tear It All Apart,” HITS professed, “Its melancholy verses give way to a rousing, redemptive chorus. The buzz on Marcagi is getting louder; he’s a true-blue story teller.” Flaunt Magazine observed, “Quite the lyricist, evoking an inspiring and relatable feeling – resonating deeply, and immediately , with those who hear it.”
Marcagi announced his arrival as a solo artist in 2024 with his Warner Records debut EP American Romance followed with his late night TV performance debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
Its Platinum-certified lead single, “Scared to Start,” reached #5 on the Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, amassing more than 4 billion TikTok views and over 800 million global streams in the process. Outside the U.S., Marcagi has also earned Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications in Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa and Gold in Belgium and Brazil.
Marcagi is about to hit the road, supporting The Lumineers on their EU/UK arena tour. He will then return to the US to join Rainbow Kitten Surprise across the Southeast in June, followed by a run of dates supporting The Red Clay Strays throughout the West Coast and Midwest.
