A clever spin on the classic phrase “let sleeping dogs lie,” Tennant’s latest track is a sharp, witty take on ignoring red flags in a relationship — and why sometimes it’s better to just walk away. Co-written with award-winning songwriter Trey Bruce, the song pairs playful wordplay with Tennant’s undeniable vocal fire, creating a modern country anthem that’s equal parts sass and self-assurance.
“‘Let Lying Dogs Sleep’ was a fun play on the saying ‘let sleeping dogs lie.’ In relationships, when those red flags start waving, sometimes the smartest move is to just leave it be and walk away,” Tennant shares. “We wanted it to feel like a conversation with your friends — those moments when the pieces don’t add up and you’re trying to convince yourself you’re wrong, but the signs are right there screaming at you.”
“Let Lying Dogs Sleep” was initially written as a playful follow up to her previously released “Pick Your Poison” – a sultry, smoke-filled track about vices, whether that be whiskey or a man with red flags. Inspired by tunes like “Before He Cheats” and “White Liar,” the track is destined to be a staple, with its catchy hook, conversational lyrics, and Tennant’s powerhouse delivery.
