Mutant Football League 2 Xbox Series S Review

Mutant Football League 2 is the outrageous, over-the-top spiritual successor to the ‘90s Sega Genesis cult-classic hit Mutant League Football. This is not your parents’ football game or a bloated simulation that chases realism at the expense of fun. MFL 2 is a brutal, darkly comedic 8-on-8 arcade-style action-packed football game. Teams of Mutated Super-Humans, Monstrous Orcs, Skeletal Deadheads, and Armored BruiserBots are pit against each other in fantastical arenas packed with deadly traps and sinister hazards like buzzsaws and giant mutant worms. This “anti-Madden” blends the pick-up-and-play accessibility of arcade sports games with strategic depth and a buttload of monstrous mayhem. Referees don’t just blow calls — they get blown up. Players don’t just fumble — they explode into limbs and pink mist.

I was able to get a review digital code for Mutant Football League 2 for the Xbox Series S console. I was able to download the game to my console quite quickly and was ready to step into the game. First, you were offered to do tutorials which I do a few of them just to refresh my mind. Then I did a tried out regular football game on Mutant Football League 2 to see how it compared to the Sega days. I have to say this is one of the most enjoyed games I played in a long time. The team names were hilarious as well, you recognize some of the names but are given that horror name. The team players have those type of names too which are unique and equally hilarious. While looking for plays, I found that there are some plays where you can beat up the refs or even bribe them for penalties. I thought that was unique as it brought enjoyment to my face and many times I had my players go after those dirty refs too haha. Who wouldn’t want to do that?!

The field had mines, saws, and much more that brought more intensity in each game. I was blown to bits many times when I went for that pass or tried to jump over a mine. I enjoyed those aspects that added more difficulty but it didn’t feel difficult but felt fun. I had a lot of fun playing this game and continued to play against other teams. Your able to play against people online, but I didn’t try that yet. I just had so much going through different teams and playing to win.

Gameplay:

Pro:

  • Creative Spots on Field
    • With the bombs and saws on the field, there are so many creative aspects that you can cater for each game.
  • Beat Up Refs
    • I enjoyed having my team run after those refs and giving them a good beating! Who doesn’t enjoy that?!

Con:

None

Rating: 9 out of 10
