Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
There are various situations. Sometimes it’s a simple sequence of notes or a sound I particularly like and it sounds good to me. Other times it’s a simple word that evokes a problem for those I care about and from which the entire song flows.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Literally all kind of music, from prog rock, hard rock, pop, Italian songwriter, new wave, classical, jazz, world music, electronic and contemporary music. I think only country music was not my thing, but then I discovered Jonny Cash and I changed my mind. There are wonderful songs and compositions in every genre.
Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?
Genesis were and still are my favourite band. Although they are completely different, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel were my musical heroes. David Bowie inspired me immensely and the list of artists that I like very much would be very long.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
I would be a manager and in the past I was.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Don’t wait, take all the time you need, but do it. Believe in your ideas but listen to your band mates if you have some, and if you don’t, find them. It is much more fun and creatively stimulating to play in a band or with other musicians than to be alone.
