Today, I was able to sit down with Frida and Adam of the band Frida and The Mann to discuss their inspiration to write music, heroes, and much more! Be sure to check out the music of Frida and The Mann on Spotify below after the interview.
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
Frida: personal experiences the environment I grew up in, it was really challenging throughout my youth, I was not always allowed to listen to music perform, I really didn’t start singing out until around 3–4 years ago.
Adam: when I write my compositions always come from challenging or emotional experiences, the Guitar is how my emotions are expressed.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Frida: Blues along the lines of Tracy Chapman, Natalie Imbruglia also I loved.
Adam: growing up a lot of Michael Jackson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash but then dove into Metallica, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Soundgarden, and then progressive acts like Opeth, Radiohead
Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?
Frida: not really, but anyone that stands up for what they believe in and do what they feel is right is definitely a hero to me because that takes a tremendous amount of strength.
Adam: from a music standpoint, I would say definitely Kirk Hammett from Metallica. I fell in love with his guitar playing at an early age and learned all of his songs
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
Frida: probably acting, I really enjoy portraying other characters.
Adam: I have always been playing guitar so that’s tough but I’m actually a healthcare provider too, I love helping people, but I have to say probably a baseball coach, I love baseball.
What can you tell us about your latest single ‘Goodbye’?
Frida: Goodbye is a song about accepting that relationships will have to end in order to fully accept ourselves. It’s saying goodbye to people who refuse to accept our choices or values and who don’t want to have conversations and instead want us to bend backwards to fit into their box. It’s a song of reclaiming our ability to choose
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Frida: go do it, learn, express yourself, don’t care what other people think, music is beautiful.
Adam: music is a wonderful thing. It’s in all of us, it’s a great form of self expression, it’s challenging, but anything worthwhile has its challenges, go make noise and don’t care what do people think, do it for yourself
