Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Our inspiration often comes from the concept of exploration, especially the vastness of space and the unknown. We’re also inspired by the emotions and experiences that life brings us—there’s a lot of introspection in our music. Nature, science fiction, and even certain landscapes can also influence the mood and tone of our songs.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
We grew up on a mix of genres—grunge, heavy metal, progressive rock, and classic bands like Pink Floyd. Later, we got into post-rock and instrumental music, which opened up new ways to express emotion without words. Those influences definitely shaped the sound of EXXASENS.
With four members in the band, there’s a lot of variety in our musical backgrounds. Our drummer, Cristian, loves brutal metal, djent, and heavier bands, while our bassist is into urban music, trap, and hip-hop. The two guitarists—Carles and myself—have a pretty broad taste, but we’re especially drawn to progressive music. One band that has influenced us all significantly is Tool, with their complex structures and atmospheric depth. This mix of influences brings a unique energy and diversity to our sound.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
As a band, we’ve always admired artists who create immersive, cinematic experiences through their music. Bands like Tool or Porcupine Tree are heroes in that sense—they pushed boundaries and made music that could transport listeners. Their dedication to innovation and storytelling is something we look up to.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Probably something in the creative or tech fields! We’re passionate about visual arts, design, and technology, so working on projects that blend those elements with storytelling would feel natural to us. Music just happens to be the perfect outlet, but the desire to create is what drives us.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Stay true to your vision and don’t be afraid to experiment. The most unique music often comes from taking risks and blending different influences. Be patient, keep learning, and enjoy the process. Also, collaboration is powerful—work with people who inspire you and who bring something different to the table. And most importantly, don’t give up!
