Interview with BlackJack Love

The world provides us with answers to questions that we haven’t asked yet. We took a look around during the show and sipped some whiskey while listening to the band’s latest single. After their set, we were able to sit down and ask a few questions to learn more about BlackJack Love.

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your

surroundings?

I don’t really have an out & out inspiration. Events in the world, stuff going on around me or personal experiences inspire me to write I’d say. Sometimes you just write absolute nonsense. Sometimes you write to tell a made up story. I think the same goes for the boys, but also their inspiration is their families.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

All sorts! Rock. Reggae. House. Dance. Motown. Soul. 80’s. Literally everything other than classical. My uncle used to make me tapes with all different music on them. He’d take me to record shops to buy cds etc, so I’ve always had a pretty wide variety of artists played to me from a young age.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

It used to be Noel Gallagher from a songwriting standpoint, but I ain’t too keen anymore. Hendrix guitar-wise. It was good growing up when I was young because musicians were still ‘rockstars’ then. That’s died out now hasn’t it.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?

Probably be a carpenter on-site or something along those lines. Like Jesus. Sam would still be on the side of the road. Nick would be aimless selling himself, & Matt would be a pimp. That’s my guess.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create

music?

Don’t limit yourself to a certain genre for inspiration. Listen to as much music as you can. You might get a great idea from something you never thought you would. Go back through the ages. Learn more instruments. But most importantly, if it sounds shit, it is shit, so start again.
