Today, we sat down with Mensah Hart who is the leader singer for the band Baytrees. We talked music inspiration, music growing up with and much more! Be sure to check out Baytrees on Spotify below after the interview!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
Growing up in Brixton is a massive inspiration. Not only in the music I create but the way I live my life.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
When I was growing up there would be all types of music getting played in the house. Dad was into the Stones, Duran Duran more rocky stuff. Whereas mum was listening to Beres Hammond John Holt and Herbie Hancock.
Is there someone you looked up to as a hero?
Mum. There was 5 of us growing up and Dad wasn’t really around much, she did it all on her own. Sadly, she’s no longer with us. She was the strongest person I’ve ever had the privilege to be around.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
I’d like to say a footballer. We used to play football from sunup to sundown. We’d take a ball with us everywhere we went.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just start. Its not going to be amazing straight away, but as long as you’re consistent in whatever you do you‘ll start to reap the rewards.
Baytrees play live @Off The Cuff bar Herne Hill on Saturday 20th Nov.
