FONO AND UNIVERSAL MUSIC MEXICO PRESENT THE “MÚSICA: NO BORDERS” SHOWCASE AT SXSW, SPOTLIGHTING THE FUTURE OF MEXICAN MUSIC

Austin, TX (March 2, 2026) — South by Southwest® (SXSW) closing night delivered an unforgettable celebration of Mexican music as FONO and Universal Music Mexico joined forces to present the MÚSICA: NO BORDERS Showcase at Mala Fama. The electrifying event featured standout performances from Vivir Quintana, La Coreañera, Danny Felix, La Nueva Ola de Cumbia, and Moreno X4, highlighting a new generation of artists redefining the sound of regional Mexican music while pushing the genre into bold new territories.

Headlining the evening, Vivir Quintana, the acclaimed Mexican singer-songwriter and activist, captivated a packed venue with a deeply moving performance. She delivered powerful renditions of “La Casa de la Esquina,” “Enamorada,” and  “Mi Casita.” Quintana’s music continues to resonate across generations, solidifying her as one of the most influential voices in contemporary Mexican music.

Next to take the stage was La Coreañera, the Korean-American, Mexico-based multi-instrumentalist whose unique sound is reshaping cumbia. Blending cultures and musical traditions, La Coreañera has embraced the genre as her creative language, bringing an innovative perspective that continues to disrupt expectations. Her vibrant performance included fan favorites such as “Cumbia Suave,” “Marimba y Acordeón,” and her latest single, “Mariposas.”

Danny Felix, one of the most exciting voices in contemporary regional Mexican music, followed with a dynamic performance that showcased his storytelling prowess. As a fast-rising star in the corridos movement, Felix is connecting with new audiences through a fresh and modern interpretation of the genre. His set featured fan favorite “Las Locas,” his latest single—a reimagined rendition of “El Lunar”—and a special preview of his upcoming release, “Chiclona.”

Bringing high energy and unmistakable flair, La Nueva Ola de Cumbia took the stage wearing their signature luchador masks and delivered a powerful set that had the crowd dancing from start to finish. Known for their distinctive take on cumbia with a Mexican twist, the group performed fan favorites “Riki Ran,”“Cumbiando,” “Viernes de Peligro,” along with their latest hit “Mujeriego.”

Closing the night was the electrifying Moreno X4, the creator of drilla corridos, a groundbreaking fusion that blends the raw edge of drill with the narrative tradition of corridos. With undeniable stage presence and an innovative sound, Moreno X4 delivered powerful performances of “En el Refuego,” “Como la Espuma,” and “Estrategia,” establishing himself as one of the most promising new voices shaping the future of Latin music.

The MÚSICA: NO BORDERS Showcase captured the spirit of a new generation of Mexican artists redefining the genre while honoring its roots. Presented by FONO and Universal Music Mexico, the event highlighted the global momentum behind regional Mexican music and the extraordinary talent driving its evolution.
