PITTSBURGH, PA – May 30, 2025 – Hot on the heels of last week’s deep-dive developer diary, Mega Cat Studios and Clever Cat Games are back with Part Two of their behind-the-scenes look at Echoes of the Unread, now live on Kickstarter.

In this latest video, creator Matt Tuttle pulls back the curtain on the game’s charming pixel art, infectious chiptunes, and imaginative storybook aesthetic. Though a programmer at heart, Tuttle shares how he stepped out of his comfort zone to craft the game’s whimsical characters and environments—navigating the creative (and technical) limitations of 40-year-old NES hardware.

The diary also dives into Tuttle’s roots in music, chronicling his evolution from a teenage hobbyist to talented chiptune composer. Drawing on years of tinkering with game soundtracks for projects he imagined, he crafted the nostalgic, melody-driven score that brings Echoes of the Unread’s magical world to life.

A story of success, Echoes of the Unread was fully funded on Kickstarter in just 24 hours. Now, Mega Cat Studios is focusing on the game’s newly-announced stretch goals to bring Rhapsody’s adventure to the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

Echoes of the Unread is slated to be released in February of 2026.

Developed by Clever Cat Games and published by Mega Cat Studios, Echoes of the Unread puts players in the shoes of Rhapsody, a young girl who, after falling asleep while studying in the library, awakens to a strange world where the books have come to life and her voice has the power to shape the world around her with song.

To find her way back home, Rhapsody must step into the pages of these tales and explore a variety of imaginative realms where they’ll befriend a cowboy, serenade a mermaid, outsmart a mischievous ghost, and sing mystical melodies to escape the clutches of the wicked magician Odele, who hopes to keep her trapped in the library forever.
