Does anyone remember Vans Warped Tour?! Nothing beats that dehydrated day-long music festival feeling. Although going to metal, punk, and emo shows in your late 20s and 30s comes close. Asking Alexandria’s “All My Friends Tour” is pretty much Warped Tour Circa 2011. With a lineup of Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive, Memphis May Fire and Nerv, the Aztec Theatre was full of people ready to embrace the music we all grew up with.
To say I was excited is an understatement… The last time I saw all these bands in one place was in my peak emo pop-punk era. I was 15 years old. 15-year-old me would’ve never believed that I became a concert photographer and had the opportunity to shoot a handful of the bands I sat in the middle of the pit singing my little emo heart out to.
Mass sing-alongs, mosh-pits and crowd surfers remind me of why I love what I do and why the music I grew up with is still on my playlists. Memphis May Fire prepped the crowd for what Asking Alexandria was going to bring to the stage.
Hearing “Closure,” “A Prophecy” and “The Final Episode” live once again transported me back to the stage-filled scorching hot pavement of the AT&T Center (now Frost Bank Center) parking lot, better known as Warped Tour.
The “All My Friends Tour,” is a must for anyone who grew up in the Warped Tour scene in the early-mid 2000s. All bands performed well-balanced setlists that feature the oldies but goodies as well as newer tracks which keep the audience engaged and connected with the music.
