Just “in time” for Halloween, ’90s-influenced Austin alternative rockers Frogmouth release their newest single, “Clockmaker.”
With its signature style, the group describes the Howie Weinberg-mastered track as a “quirky, anxiety-laden march toward glorious melodic arcs and harmonies.” While it carries that grunge/power pop/early punk feel that Frogmouth does so well, drummer Jordan Goldman says the song and upcoming material will see the band taking a newer direction.
“Frogmouth has always been an amalgamation of the different musical styles and musical backgrounds from all four members, contributing our individual voices. Our songs end up surprising us every time, from where they start to where they end up, which is an exciting process!” Goldman told Drop The Spotlight.
“Clockmaker continues along that evolutionary trend, delving into new territory with different sonic palettes we haven’t explored previously.”
Indeed, the four-and-a-half-minute song is a wild ride, with so many cool grooves throughout. For fans of Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, Superchunk, and Rush, Frogmouth will scratch that itch. At the same time, the band’s style is unique to them.
“Our new material all feels pretty exciting,” Goldman continues. “ A lot of it is coming out more mid-tempo, versus the quicker-paced stuff we made on [spring 2025’s] ‘Identity Thief’ and [2023’s] ‘Humor Me’ EP. It seems like we are maturing a bit, getting more comfortable working with each other, and maybe taking more chances in what we’re doing than we felt we could previously.”
Frogmouth reports that there is likely to be a new album release this upcoming spring of 2026.
Meanwhile, you can catch Frogmouth live three different times this November in Austin. They will be celebrating the “Clockmaker” single release on Saturday, November 1, at Anderson Mill Pub in North Austin. On Saturday, November 8, catch the group at Rattan Fest, a big north Austin neighborhood block party. Finally, on Thursday, November 20, at the iconic Kick Butt Coffee, the band is doing something “very special.”
As for playing in San Antonio, the band is open to returning in January, after taking a much-needed holiday break.
“If you book for a venue, or have a band and want us to come play with y’all…HIT US UP!” Goldman says.
We look forward to it, and are “counting down” the days!
