UK SOUL SINGER & SONGWRITER MT JONES RELEASES NEW SINGLE “I DON’T UNDERSTAND”

Rising British soul singer and songwriter, MT Jones today released the third track, “I Don’t Understand”, from his upcoming debut album, Joy. Listen here. Joy, which will be released March 20, 2026 also features the previously released singles “Why I Cry” and “Gentle Reminder”. MT also released the very special performance of “Why I Cry -Live at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Roomwhich was recorded in Jones’ hometown of Liverpool and can be seen here.

“I Don’t Understand” is a playful love song. It’s set in those very fresh stages of a relationship, where you’re so besotted you’re quite happy to turn all current parts of your life upside down,” says Jones. “It’s a really fun one to play live, as you can experiment with the groove and arrangement a lot.”

With a sound that blends the warmth of 60’s and 70’s greats with the texture of modern R&B and jazz, Jones’ music is rooted in timeless songwriting, live instrumentation, and a voice that carries both vulnerability and power. Already being named as an “Artist to Watch for 2026”. Earmilk praised, “Sky’s the limit for this blue-eyed soul meets retro-R&B mastermind“ while Ladgyunn wrote,”Blending ‘60s and ‘70s soul with modern R&B and jazz influences, Jones’ music pairs timeless songwriting and live instrumentation with a voice that balances vulnerability and power” and Atwood Magazine hailed, “With a voice that recalls the warmth of Donny Hathaway and the depth of Leon Bridges, Jones doesn’t just sing-he makes you feel.”

After a breakout Fall that saw Jones playing to sold-out venues across the U.K. including Arts Club Loft in Liverpool and Islington Assembly Hall in London, the tour marked a major step for MT, whose journey began busking as a kid on the streets of Chester and has since taken him across Europe and beyond. Jones recently had his very first Los Angeles headline show in December at the Moroccan Lounge and this week (January 20th) at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. Jones will be back on the road in Europe in February with St. Paul & The Broken Bones followed by his already sold-out headline show at London’s Union Chapel April 24, 2026. MT Jones is also confirmed for the SXSW Festival March 12-18th in Austin, TX with a full set of performances to be announced. See below for a full listing of upcoming tour dates.

MT Jones has gained strong radio and tastemaker support with previous singles including “Punchin’” and “Why I Cry” receiving airplay across BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, and BBC Introducing. He has drawn comparisons to Donny Hathaway, Carole King, and D’Angelo, while remaining distinctly his own. From his beginnings as a teenage busker to touring internationally with longtime friend Jalen Ngonda and supporting Lauryn Hill, Jones’ journey has been shaped by both graft and soul.
