The Electric State Roleplaying Game Review

The Electric State Roleplaying Game Review

The Electric State Roleplaying Game is based on the art book The Electric State by acclaimed visual artist and author Simon Stålenhag. This tabletop RPG uses Free League’s Year Zero Engine, known from award-winning games such as Mutant: Year Zero, Tales From the Loop RPG, ALIEN RPG, and theBlade Runner RPG.

This is a game about a group of travelers heading out on a journey through a strange America in an alternate 1997. The ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, heaped together with the discarded trash of a high tech consumerist society in decline.

We were able to get a review copy of the book and did an unboxing below. The Electric State allows you to create and find your traveler. There are some good options to choose from as you can read their attributes and their story. This makes for an exciting game as you can roll the dice and see how your traveler’s outcome through these varied experiences. Your able to play with friends or solo, there are chapters for both that will enable you to experience that journey. The Electric State is a different type of RPG I’m used to, but brought a fun dynamic as anything can happen with your traveler.

Pro:

  • Traveler
    • Your able to create your own traveler in Chapter 3 with a lot of options. Your able to go through and select your traveler that you would like to utilize in the game. There are some creative ones that you will become familiar with and want them to succeed.
  • Solo or with friends
    • In The Electric State you could play with friends in a rpg or solo. There is a pre-made journey called Into The Dust that you can venture with your friends. The 8th section is made specifically for people who want to experience the rpg in a solo atmosphere. Both are fun and exciting to try!
