Throughout the upcoming year, Ghostbusters fan groups across the country are encouraged to participate in a friendly fundraising competition—tracking their efforts to see which local teams can raise the most for their local causes. To further support this initiative, Sony Pictures will match contributions up to $150,000, which will be donated to the Starlight Children’s Foundation with a goal to create more than 6,000 Ghostbusters-themed gowns to bring joy to kids in hospitals. This marks a significant step in the franchise’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact. It also highlights the extraordinary ways Ghostbusters fans have embraced the heart of the franchise—not just in costume, but in action.
The official Ghostbusters website has added a new hub dedicated to the fan-led philanthropy called “Ghostbusters Give Back.” There, fans can track their fundraising efforts in a nationwide competition to see which city groups can raise the most this year.
The launch of the Ghostbusters Give Back initiative was announced by director Jason Reitman at a special fan event held on June 7th, a day ahead of Ghostbusters Day on June 8th, at New York’s iconic Hook & Ladder 8. “Since fans started wearing flight suits in the 1980s, Ghostbusters groups have emerged across the country to spread joy and raise money for organizations that need support. Any given week, there is a Ghostbuster group somewhere in America visiting a children’s hospital or holding a fundraiser.” said Jason Reitman , director of Ghost Corps. “This year, we’re honoring that incredible work and supporting their efforts with a little healthy competition.”
Other Sony Group companies are also joining the charitable efforts for the day by donating new 65” class Sony BRAVIA® 4K TVs and PlayStation® 5 consoles for local firehouses in New York and Los Angeles.
- Exciting Live Event on June 7th at New York City’s NYFD Hook & Ladder 8: Continuing for the fifth year in a row, the Buffalo New York fan group has teamed up with the original Ghostbusters firehouse to host a fundraising event for all fans to join. He was joined by stars of the recent Ghostbusters films Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace to the surprise and delight of the fans. All proceeds of the event will go to the FDNY Thomas R. Elsasser Fund.
