Netflix Unleashes New Woes and an Even Bolder Wednesday as Season 2, Part 2 Premieres
After a month-long wait, Netflix’s series Wednesday, directed by Tim Burton, returned on September 3rd with Season 2, Part 2. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as Wednesday Addams, who was left in a coma after being thrown through a window and awakens to solve new mysteries at Nevermore Academy while managing her psychic abilities and her family’s legacy. She must prevent her prophecy from coming true and find Tyler, who escaped from Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. The final four episodes feature more twists, supernatural intrigue, and star guests, including Lady Gaga as Rosaline Rotwood and Blackpink’s song “Boombayah.” Other guest stars include Heather Matarazzo and Billie Piper in cameo roles.
Lady Gaga’s character, Rosaline Rotwood, is the ghost of a former professor at Nevermore. Her spirit guides Wednesday in harnessing her abilities, but when Wednesday breaks the raven’s gaze, she and Enid swap bodies. Enid reads Wednesday’s journal, discovers her honest views, and retaliates by changing Wednesday’s wardrobe to full color, causing an allergic reaction. Enid then surprises fans with a dance in the courtyard to Blackpink’s “Boombayah,” adding a playful twist to the series.
And, for those who are Doctor Who fans, Billie Piper stars as Ms. Isadora Capri, the new music instructor at Nevermore Academy who happens to also be a werewolf. Sound familiar, Doctor Who fans? Bad Wolf? But that’s not all, she comes from a lineage of Hydes and werewolves, which is rare in the Nevermore world. She even forms a mentorship bond with Enid and guides her toward the potential of becoming an alpha wolf. However, fans speculate her innocence, as many educators who enter the Nevermore Academy doors rarely have pure intentions. At the end of season 2, she is seen conversing with Tyler and builds an unexpected alliance. She states she has no desire to become Tyler’s new master, but who knows what tricks she may have up her sleeve in season 3.
As for Heather Matarazzo, she returns as a recurring character, Judi Spannagel, the executive assistant at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, and an Avian killer, who controls ravens at her will to commit her murderous acts, and runs an underground facility experimenting on outcasts. Her story and intentions continue to unfold throughout the series as she’s present when Wednesday awakens from her coma.
Overall, Part 2 of Wednesday is not one to miss this season. There are sinister twists, plenty of dark laughs, and a cast of unforgettable characters. Season 2 carries the series as a must-watch. Whether you’re drawn in by the mysteries, clever cameos, or Wednesday’s unyielding spirit, viewers will be left eagerly waiting for what’s next at Nevermore Academy and the never-ending woes of the famous Addams’ child.
