THE FIFTH SINGLE FROM THEIR FORTHCOMING ALBUM, VOL.3

LAUNCHES 1ST ANNUAL ‘NOVMAS FEST’ IN DALLAS NEXT WEEK

(November 21, 2025) — Today, Novulent seeks peace on “boys lie, girls steal,” a shoegaze-drenched cut about the struggle to find love. The new single is the fifth piece that the Texas-bred artist has unveiled from their upcoming album VOL. 3. Listen to “boys lie, girls steal,” released by Capitol Records, HERE, and watch the accompanying music video HERE.

“boys lie, girls steal” also arrives mere days before Novulent launches their first annual NOVMAS FEST in Dallas on November 29, featuring a Halloween theme and a hand-picked lineup of special guests, including Atlanta upstart kwasi kao and Texas bands Dead Butterflies, Bleeding Truth, and Rosasharin. Opening on a wave of gorgeous guitar grind, “boys lie, girls steal” soon bursts into a blistering full-band sound. The sonic floodwaters rise as Novulent’s voice cuts through the crashing drums and gritty distortion with an eerie calm: “Dying light, see the strain in my eyes / When I try to make sense of my own life [… ] Every year I try / Boys lie and girls steal, from you, from you […] Am I stuck in a loop?” But the query feels genuinely inquisitive — not wallowing — as they attempt to find their footing in the wake of another romance lost.

“With VOL. 3 being about me navigating relationships — using my own and others’ as inspiration — ‘boys lie, girls steal’ is one possible mindset after a breakup,” says Novulent. “It’s actually not a ‘bad ending.’ The whole song is about how nobody is perfect — we’re all fucked up and that’s how it is. Boys lie and girls steal.”

The new song follows last month’s stormy “sacrifice,” a cathartic cut about letting go of negative associations. Novas (as Novulent’s fans are called) have eagerly devoured each taste of VOL. 3 shared so far, including “evil eye,” an enthralling shoegaze/darkwave swirl that embodies the overwhelming influence of love and lust, and “rip,” a dynamic fuzz-bomb with velvety vocals that weighs the possibilities of new romance against the past.

And then there was the forthcoming album’s lead single, “new low,” a bittersweet dream-pop confection that landed on Alternative Press’ “A-sides: 10 songs you need to hear” while inspiring some kind words from Pop Cultr, among others: “Novulent blends hard rock, shoegaze, and emo influences seamlessly in ‘new low,’ drawing inspiration from their personal experiences with heartbreak and emotional turmoil.”

The third and final piece in a trilogy, VOL.3 tells the story of a powerful romance as it evolves over time. Drawing inspiration from early 2000s films like Thirteen and All About Lily Chou-Chou, which explore dark themes against a coming-of-age backdrop, the highly anticipated set caps off a series of reflective LPs.

VOL.1 (2023) found Novulent processing back-to-back breakups that completely shattered their worldview — it also contained the breakout cut “scars,” which has amassed over 200 million global streams. Last year brought VOL.2, a cleansing one-on-one talk between Novulent and their past self that launched the hit “soul ties,” which has over 2.3 million streams globally.

Novulent has been bringing their powerful sound to audiences around the country. They recently wrapped their headlining BEFORE VOL. 3 TOUR and played Alabama’s alt-edged Furnace Fest, following an earlier run opening for VIOLENT VIRA’s North American tour.
