Maya Hawke Shares New Single “Lioness”

Acclaimed musician and songwriter Maya Hawke has shared “Lioness,” the latest track to be taken from her highly anticipated new album Maitreya Corso, out on Friday, May 1 via Mom + Pop.

“Lioness” finds Maya’s “Maitreya Corso” character with a shaken yet persistent confidence in herself, a self-described “lioness with a thorn in her paw.” With lyrics that toe the line between playful defiance and self-assuredness on one hand, and insecurity and in need of guidance on the other, the track speaks to the complexity of finding one’s identity – complete with a chanting, celebratory chorus: “I work in mysterious ways.”

Maitreya Corso, Maya’s most evocative and effusive work to date, is the second full length collaboration between Maya and lauded singer/songwriter/producer Christian Lee Hutson, and it’s a potent, dynamic and elegantly loquacious sibling to 2024’s critically acclaimed Chaos Angel. The album was recorded over the Fall and Winter of 2025 in Woodstock, NY and in the city, with Maya’s frequent collaborators: guitarist Will Graefe, violinist Odessa Jorgensen, and drummer Michael Riddleberger. Maitreya Corso was mixed by Joseph Lorge and primarily co-produced by Hutson along with Jonathan Low, with Benjamin Lazar Davis wearing the producer’s hat for many of the songs.

Maya has spent the last couple months giving fans glimpses into the expansive world of Maitreya Corso. Her new website – Maya Hawke Music – has doubled as a creative hub for the record. By pre-ordering the album on the site, fans had the opportunity to receive exclusive previews from the new album, including unreleased songs and videos inspired by Maya’s paintings, throughout the month of April.

Maya has also embarked on her first U.S. tour in three years. The entirely sold out tour kicked off at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY – where she wrote much of the album – and included stops at iconic venues such as The Troubadour in LA. The Maitreya Corso tour will wrap this Saturday night at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.
