Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree Xbox Series S Review

Set in the dark and immersive world of Faelduum, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is a story-driven 2.5D action RPG offering over 40 hours of gameplay. It blends Soulslike combat with non-linear exploration, offering challenging battles, deep character customization, and a narrative shaped by player choices. The game features six distinct character classes, each with unique talent trees and over 200 active skill upgrades. The story is crafted by Brian Mitsoda (Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines), with a haunting soundtrack composed by Christos Antoniou and performed by the FILM harmonic Orchestra of Prague.

I was able to get a review key for my Xbox Series S console. I was able to download the game quite quickly to my console and start off the game. I was able to design my character with the class I wanted and chose some aspects I felt would be beneficial. Then, the cinema of the story of what happened to the lands. I was focused on what happened to the area as well as the introduction of evil. Once you meet the witch and then your character gives mercy, then you have a target on your back with the people around you. You are sent on a hunt to find the sister and capture her. I’m enjoying this story as its quite unique that is filled with imagination that fills your mind of what could happen next. I’m enjoying the visuals as well as the music. This brings more to the game and levels showcasing the demonstration of the creativity of the game designers. This also gives you more in-depth about the area and story as well. The bosses can be challenging as a whole as you will need to figure out a plan of attack on each one. You will die a few times before you can master a boss or two, but it feels so good when your able to defeat them.

Gameplay:

Pro:

  • Story
    • I’m enjoying the story as your Inquisitor that slayed a witched while she was being destroyed. Your mercy of her allowed her to give you her powers. With that, you are sent to find the sister of the witch and capture her as well. While your looking for that sister, you learn more about that land and the area that succumbed to evil.
  • Skill Tree
    • Your able to grow your skills throughout the game that will help you with your character. You will find items along your way to help with your skills and growth that will unlock so many things for your character.

Con:

  • Challenging
    • The bosses can be challenging which took myself a few tries to defeat certain bosses. I had to learn their attack routine and have patience in order to destroy them without dying.

Rating: 8 out of 10
