Magenta Moon Finds Freedom in Chaos with New Single, “You Like Me”

Los Angeles, CA – Magenta Moon’s newest release, “You Like Me,” is a hypnotic declaration of independence from the noise and pressure of modern life. It’s a song that blends innovative rock with raw emotion, creating a spiritual exhale and a defiant stand against the commotion of daily life. “You Like Me” is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Written and performed by Elaina Whitesell and Joey Petrarca, “You Like Me” is what happens when creative exhaustion turns into artistic clarity. In a world that demands constant output, this track is a counterspell to do something because you love it, not because it’s profitable. Opening with a thick, driving beat and warping guitars, this beautifully chaotic and vulnerable track pulls listeners into its echo-heavy world. Whitesell’s vocals are the centerpiece: they’re sultry, unfiltered, and echo like a memory you can’t quite shake. Combined with Petrarca’s cutting guitar riffs, grounded bass lines, and a boundary-pushing arrangement by Christopher Xue on violin, Broadway B on keys, and Pat Mannella on drums, “You Like Me” has a pulse of its own. Building in waves, the layers give it a unique edge while keeping it rooted in a gritty, rock and roll soul. The instrumentation is intentional; the guitar creates a distorted backbone, bass and drums keeping everything cohesive whilst violin and keys push the song into exploratory territory. Recorded and mixed by Andrew Solis at Dead Stare Audio and mastered by Nick Townsend (Weezer, Pearl Jam, Paramore), this final result is a cinematic late-night thought you can’t escape.

Magenta Moon is the collaborative project of Elaina Whitesell and Joey Petrarca, two artists creating music fusing indie rock, pop, and electronic elements into a sound that’s both expansive and distinctive. Originally from Illinois and Pennsylvania, the two met in Boston, igniting not only a creative partnership but also a love story. In 2022, the duo moved to Los Angeles to continue shaping their identity. Their work has received praise from outlets including EARMILKMystic SonsIndie Midlands, and they were named one of Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 Artists of the Year in 2024.

“You Like Me” says what we’re all thinking but rarely admit, that sometimes, the pressure to be seen, liked, and validated feels like a trap. It’s a reminder that art is still a place to be free, even if nothing else is. Follow Magenta Moon on Instagram @magentamoonparty and visit their website at MagentaMoonParty.com.
