Los Angeles pop artist KENTON is the black sheep of the family in new video “Dirty Laundry”

Pop artist KENTON has released the music video for his single “Dirty Laundry” today. The fourth and final single, “Dirty Laundry,” sets the stage for the Sweetmouth album release on Oct 17, available now for pre-save. “I’m bringing shame upon the family / I’m calling out the truth as I see.” Between his cousin in rehab and his questionable aunt, Kenton ponders why he’s seen as the black sheep simply because he’s open about his sexuality. The song is produced and co-written by Eric Cannata (Young the Giant), mixed by Neal Avron (Twenty One Pilots, Sara Bareilles), and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty (Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish).

The “Dirty Laundry” video follows up three previous single and video releases from Sweetmouth including “Gift of Loneliness,” “Wannabe American,” and “I’m Breaking My Father’s Heart.” In his own words, KENTON describes Sweetmouth as his way of “processing the shame, guilt, grief and anger I’ve harbored over the years, of honoring the heritage of [his] ancestors, and of learning the art of forgiveness so that [he], as an adult, can choose love.”

“I have always felt guilty for putting personal matters in my songs, because my father, a pastor, would have to answer to his congregation about his ‘wild gay son.’ My parent’s greatest fear is that because I work in entertainment, I’m going to end up sex trafficked and addicted to drugs. Well, I’ve been touring for years now, and so far so good. But I’m done hiding. So what if I’m queer? So what if I drink? Work in entertainment? Time to face my greatest shame and let it all out.” – Kenton
