The first single, a sultry cover of Donny Hathaway’s iconic “This Christmas,” was released on November 1, setting the tone for the full album launch on November 8. Lizzie’s rendition features a groovy B3 organ arrangement, adding a deep, soulful vibe to the holiday favorite.
“I believe ‘This Christmas’ is one of the best holiday songs. It’s fresh, speaks to the present moment, and showcases my band’s soulful vibe,” says Lizzie. “This song, written by Nadine McKinnor and Donny Hathaway and inspired by Nat King Cole, is Black American Music at its finest.”
The album continues with a lush bossa nova twist on “Christmas Time is Here,” featuring Brazilian guitarist Leandro Pellegrino. Lizzie’s performance of “It’s Magic” highlights Antoine Drye’s exquisite flugelhorn, while her lively big band rendition of Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” breathes new life into the classic with her fluid scat stylings. The collection concludes with a hauntingly beautiful take on Terry Roche’s “Star of Wonder,” featuring an intimate collaboration with John Di Martino and Neal Smith.
With roots in Pittsburgh and Nashville, Lizzie has become a staple in New York’s jazz scene, earning critical acclaim for albums like New Sounds From The Jazz Age and Duo Encounters. She has performed sold-out shows at renowned venues such as Birdland, Chelsea Table & Stage, and Blues Alley. Over her 16-year career, she has shared the stage with legends like Ron Carter and the late Russell Malone. Her upcoming European tour kicks off in March 2025, visiting Switzerland, Germany, France, England, and Ireland.
