Today, we sat down with The Loners to talk inspiration to write music, advice for musicians, and much more! Be sure to check out the music from The Loners on Spotify below after the interview!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
Everything! Our songs are about love, politics, friendship, nights out, mental health etc. I usually write a song when I am sitting on the couch, or at 3am lying in bed. I grab my phone and start typing the lyrics.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
Nath listened to a lot of indie and rock music. I was/am heavily influenced by the likes of The Stone Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Nirvana etc.
Mark liked a lot of indie punk, like Mogwai, Feeder and Greenday etc. and experimental music. James is a massive country fan, but also appreciated punk rock: The Cult and easy listening, like Billy Ocean.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
I (Nath) loved John Squire from the Stone Roses. I wanted to play just like him on guitar. The fact he plays guitar like Jimmy Page, writes songs and also is an established artist, just amazes me. James is a massive Dave Grohl fan, for obvious reasons, but finds his life very interesting.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
Something depressing and boring, probably! But to be honest, we all listen to music daily, that it has always been a part of our lives. James taught himself drums. Mark learned bass and guitar at school and I picked up the guitar because there were too many other kids wanting to learn drums, at school, and I didn’t want to wait!
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
Stick at it. You’re making/playing music for a reason. So keep at it. It’s fun and it can fix any type of problem/issue you are going through! Like anything else, if you work at it enough, you’ll get to where you want to be.
