Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your
surroundings?
S- Music wise i think that it comes mainly from listening to a lot of different music. Everything from jazz, hip hop, cheesy pop to grindcore but if i’m struggling with inspiration i have some go to records that always gets me in the right mode. Lyric wise i would say that it’s the surroundings. Politics, fascist propaganda, authoritarianism, famine and other horrors are all being dealt with in our lyrics.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
S- When i was really young it was mainly British punk, Sex Pistols, Exploited, GBH, UK Subs and metal like Iron Maiden, Accept, Slayer and Metallica. My first concert was in 1985 when i saw Motorhead, that was big. As the years went on my taste for faster, heavier and more nasty punk and metal evolved and when i heard the Entombed demo in 1989 i knew what the future in music sounded like.
Is there someone you looked up to, as a hero?
S- I never had heros like that as a child. All bands were heros to me and i loved it when they had photos from shows on their albums. I could study those photos for hours. I dreamt of being on stage playing in front of an ecstatic crowd but i didn’t know how to start a band. It wasn’t until i was 13 when i finally met some friends that had the same taste in music and we could form our first punk band.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing today?
S- I don’t know, i wouldn’t be the same without the music. I wouldn’t have met the people i have met, learnt the art of DIY or have my political view without the music. Punk is for life. Once it grabs a hold of you it never let go.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create
music?
S- Just do it. Whatever music that you wish to play, just do it. It doesn’t have to be perfect at the beginning. You will learn along the way and you will meet likeminded people along the way. You are never to old to learn how to do, play or produce music, just do it. Don’t listen to the ney sayers. Go your own way.
