Today, we sat down with the band Final Transmission to discuss their inspiration to write music, heroes, and much more!
Interview:
What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?
For the 5 of us, it’s definitely the music we listen to and the surroundings. One of us might listen to a new band and think “That sounds so good” and then we go through their entire catalogue. As a result it massively influences what we write.
We also take inspiration from our surroundings and environment. If one of us or a friend is going through something whether it’s good or bad it might help inspire the idea. There are a few songs from our catalogue we can think of that fall into that category.
What type of music did you listen to growing up?
We all grew up listening to Rock/Metal. As we got older our tastes changed and we branched out. But we always find ourself at our core going back to our roots.
Is there someone you looked up as a hero?
Not a hero per say but everybody’s influenced by someone, and for us, it’s a mix of personal heroes and the bands.
For me—Connor (lead guitar)—it all started with Slash. He’s the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. While my tastes have evolved, I’m still a huge Guns N’ Roses fan. These days, I’d say Mark Tremonti is a massive inspiration—the speed, precision, and emotion in his playing are next level. I’ve always admired how he can evoke feeling with just a single bend or phrase.
For Adam (vocals), it’s Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, without a doubt. Chester’s emotional range and raw delivery are a huge part of what shaped Adam’s style. He also
draws influence from Davey Havok and Matt Tuck—those artists really push him to hit that next note, scream, or emotional peak in every performance.
Jordan (rhythm guitar) has always been deeply inspired by Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin. There’s something about that band’s sound and Ben’s songwriting that really resonated with him—it’s what made him want to make music that connects on that same level.
Aidan (bass) is my brother, so naturally he was surrounded by the same early influences—Guns N’ Roses, Alice Cooper, and that old-school rock energy. His bass style was shaped by Duff McKagan early on, but over the years, Adam’s introduced him to heavier bands like The Devil Wears Prada and Architects, which have expanded his range and approach.
Tom our drummer has a lot of influences – Mario Duplantier, Chris Adler, Gene Hoglan, Einar Selvik, Dave Lombardo, Tomas Haake, Igor Cavalera Brann Dailor and Martin Axenrot I would say for drumming especially.
If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?
The 5 of us have other hobbies outside of the band. Notably we all play video games, Jordan has his own YouTube Channel. Tom streams on Twitch with Aidan and Adam has been known to do a few. I honestly don’t think any of us could truly answer that as its been a part of us for so long. But if I had to guess I’d say we all probably be doing more gaming/streaming in our spare time.
What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?
Just get some free recording software and plug ins and write. Write as much as you can, use midi drums, midi guitar. Whatever you need. If you can find like minded people then jam with them and see what happens. Software has got so good in the last 5/10 years. You can practically record everything at home and even release it. Don’t get me wrong, going to a studio will always give a better result but it’s always doable. No matter what level or experience you have.
