Interview with Corinne, singer and songwriter, from Valfreya

Today, we sat down with singer and songwriter Corinne from the heavy metal band Valfreya! We talk inspiration to write music, type of music she had listened to growing up and advice for musicians! Be sure to check out Valfreya’s music below after the interview! Dig the music hard!

Here is the interview:

What is your inspiration to write your music? Is it your surroundings?

Path to Eternity and Promised Land are concepts albums inspired for North Mythology. The albums are journeys through a lot of emotions and situations, giving life to a host of varied songs, each with a different sound and personality. We also produced two acoustic albums that are a mixed of adaptations of our metal songs and original compositions. When I decided the themes of these albums, I felt like writing something that was not socially or politically engaged. Fantastic stories allow people to escape reality and it makes me feel good.

We are presently working on a new concept album. It will be inspired by the goddess Hel and this time, it will be a criticism towards humanity.

What type of music did you listen to growing up?

I listened to a lot of different music, but I discovered underground metal only when I was around 17 years old. Before that, I was a big fan of System of Down and some ‘’punk’’ bands.

Is there someone you looked up as a hero?

Not ONE person, but all the people who are fighting for the good of the environment. Human beings are a terrible plague for this planet. We need those people who carry the burden of change and who refuse to ignore the actual climatic situation.

If you weren’t a musician, would you be doing today?

I would totally work in an animal shelter. I love helping wild animal and pets.

What advice do you have for our fans out there that want to create music?

Be resourceful and persistent. Don’t wait for things to happen on their own.
