Free League launches City of My Nightmares for the Vaesen RPG

Today, Free League Publishing announced the release of City of My Nightmares, a new full-length campaign expansion for the award-winning Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying. The expansion invites players into a dark, investigative mystery set in 19th-century Stockholm, and expands the game’s lore with new insight into the origins of the Society.

City of My Nightmares is available through the Free League webshop (including a complimentary PDF), at hobby stores worldwide, and digitally via DriveThruRPG.

Spanning four interconnected parts, City of My Nightmares begins with a series of murders in Stockholm. What starts as a local investigation quickly escalates into a far-reaching conspiracy tied to the Society itself, threatening to plunge the city into chaos. Designed for extended play, the campaign provides Gamemasters with a structured yet flexible mystery that builds from grounded investigation to city-wide stakes.

Written by Kiku Pukk Härenstam, the campaign delivers a layered narrative experience supported by rich worldbuilding and escalating tension. The setting is brought to life through illustrations by Johan Egerkrans and Anton Vitus, capturing the eerie atmosphere of a gothic capital shaped by folklore and fear.

City of My Nightmares key features:

  • A full-length, four-part campaign set in 19th-century Stockholm
  • A mystery-driven narrative that begins with a string of killings and escalates into a conspiracy tied to the origins of the Society
  • Expanded lore for Vaesen, offering new insight into the Society’s role in the hidden world of the supernatural
  • A large city map and oversized newspaper handout (17 × 22 inches) designed to enhance investigation and immersion

Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying
In dark forests, beyond the mountains, by black lakes in hidden groves. At your doorstep. In the shadows, something stirs. Strange beings. Twisted creatures, lurking at the edge of vision. Watching. Waiting. Unseen by most, but not by you. You see them for what they really are. Vaesen.

Based on the acclaimed art book by Johan Egerkrans, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying has become a fan favorite worldwide and has won multiple awards, including three ENNIEs, since its initial release in 2020.
