Dampyr Netflix Review

Dampyr Netflix Review

In the war-torn Balkans of the 1990s, a human with vampire blood harnesses his powers to confront a mighty entity threatening both mortals and immortals.

I was scrolling on my Netflix front page and decided to check out this movie. I saw the trailer when you hover over the movie and I’m like hmmmm this looks interesting. This movie is based in the Balkans and talks about the story of Russian lore. Where the son of Satan has a child with a mortal woman. He tries to destroy the child, but is stopped by witches. This child’s blood is powerful and can kill others like him. Then we see Harlan aka The Dampyr make is money and booze through going to various villages and doing spells to protect them from vampires and other curses. While he is out there, he is captured by the commander of this military group. They want him to kill the vampires in this area. While he was there, Harlan meets a vampire that takes his breath away and then kills another vampire with his bare hands. I’m going to stop here as the story of the movie is really good. They utilize the lore and history of the time to discuss a great potential in the movie. I couldn’t stop watching the movie as it took my mind and imagination for a spin. I also enjoyed that they had this done in Russia area and showcase some of their legends.

I dig it!

Pro:

  • Story
    • The story is pretty damn good as you meet Harlan who is half human and half something else. He drinks a lot to forget his dreams and his pretty bad childhood. He is given the opportunity to learn more about himself and what he can do to protect others when he is captured by a commander and is forced to meet his maker.
  • Russian
    • I liked how they had this movie done in Russia and showcased the Balkans area during that time of war. You still see the horror and supernatural side while also seeing the daily aggression of war.

Con:

None

Rating: 9 out of 10
