How it felt to be able to tell people the news:
“It was I was keeping this secret for so long and it felt good. It felt good. As I said, you know what I felt so emotionally just like It was the first time that I showed the video one of my friends and I saw his reaction and he was so excited. As I said, I’m really excited but this is making me feel so happy, because more than me for everyone else,” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden. “I’m really excited for my friends, my family. Puerto Rico, all the Latino people around the world. I’m excited about my culture. I’m excited about everything, not just for me. You know what I’m saying. It feels really good the beach where we record is my hometown beach. So it’s a very special thing for us.”

On the magnitude of putting Puerto Rico on the stage:
“I’m always doing everything with purpose and of course everywhere I go, I always represent and I always put my country, my music. I really am figuring out yet what I’m going to do on this show. But it’s going to be good.”

Watching a Super Bowl with Zane and Ebro:
“I remember that day, we talk about it, like maybe in a few years I could be there. And it’s time.”

He didn’t get too many texts when the news broke:

“Not too many. I keep my number, you know, underwater.”

On keeping it a secret:
“I don’t want to act like the coolest guy. We’re used to this. That’s the type of thing we like [to] surprise people. We’re always holding, and keeping secret everything. Trying to do our best. Of course, [the] NFL, Apple Music, Roc Nation, they also wanted to keep it.”

When he got the call from JAY-Z:
“It’s crazy because I was in the middle of a workout. So I remember that after the call, I just did like a hundred pull ups. I didn’t need more pre-workout shit or whatever. It was very special. It was so special.”

On being able to share this with everyone:
“I say, this is for everyone. This is for all the people who believe in me and have been supporting me.”

How Latin music has become more accessible:
“I think it’s also the result of just do things with heart. I’m always doing my best and working with so much passion and also, I’m still working. I’m a rookie. I’m still hungry to conquer and to show what I can do to the people. It’s crazy ’cause I think everyone already knows what I’m capable to do. But I’m still one to surprise. And ‘look I can do this, look I can do this’. That’s what I like, and I’m very grateful to live this moment with all my people.”

His goal for the Super Bowl:
“I’m going to enjoy. I’m going to embrace the moment. I’m going to show what we have, our music, our culture. I’m just going to the stage to enjoy and have fun.”
